Agriculture Scholarships for African Americans – The Edna Lewis Foundation – 2020-21

The Edna Lewis Foundation exists to honor and extend the legacy of Edna Lewis by creating opportunities for African Americans in the fields of cooking, agriculture, food studies and storytelling. The guiding spirit of The Foundation is its namesake, Chef Edna Lewis, an early champion of Southern cookery who helped educate and mentor generations of chefs and food enthusiasts, while celebrating the African American culinary community and culture.

First born in 2012 by celebrated chef Joe Randall, and continuing this legacy, the Edna Lewis Foundation fundraises to provide scholarships, training and advocacy for the African-American tradition of the original farm-to-table lifestyle, eating with the seasons, a sense of community, and the satisfactory feeling that hard work is always rewarded by good food.

We are very pleased to announce open season for applications to our 2020-2021 agriculture scholarships for African Americans – Edna Lewis Scholars. One scholarship grant of up to $5,000 will be awarded to a qualified applicant in each of three scholarship fields: Agriculture and Farming, Culinary Arts, and Food Writing. Edna Lewis Foundation Scholarships follow a grant model, in which the recipient is given wide latitude in the use of scholarship funds to achieve a goal to advance their career in their chosen food-related career.
