Farmer Training Program Manager Job at Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming in NY – 2021

The Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming in Cold Spring, New York seeks an enthusiastic, passionate candidate to join our staff as Farmer Training Program Manager. 

Under the supervision of the Director of Farmer Training, the Farmer Training Program Manager will engage in various program activities such as outreach and communication with program participants, facilitation of program events, development of educational events and curricula, management of contact lists, program experience evaluation, and more. The Program Manager will also work collaboratively with the Director of Agriculture and Glynwood’s Regional Food Program team when developing programs.

This is a highly flexible, dynamic position that requires regular regional travel for program support and remote events. The Program Manager will work from home and at Glynwood’s office in Cold Spring.

Farmer Training Program Manager Essential Job Duties

  • Program Engagement
  • Communicate regularly and directly with current, future, and past program participants by phone, email, and in person.
  • Convey and gather information related to program development and execution, including: research, planning, recruitment, developing community agreements, scheduling, registration, and evaluation.
  • Support farmer training by conducting check-ins, skills assessments, and site visits with participants and mentor farmers.
  • Keep regular notes on program participants’ progress.
  • Plan and implement meetings, training events, workshops, and tours.
  • Coordinate invitations, RSVPs, program evaluations, surveys, and other monitoring / follow-up.
  • Schedule and coordinate visiting partners such as instructors and facilitators.
  • Foster farmer networks including farmer mentors and livestock producers.
  • Assist with case management for the Hudson Valley Farm Business Incubator.
  • Provide land access coordination to non-farming landowners and farmland seekers.

Admin Assistance & Data Entry

  • Communicate with contractors to ensure timely submission of invoices, reimbursement requests, and receipts.
  • Maintain lists of program contacts, ensuring they are complete and up to date.

Events

  • Support program directors’ needs for various mission-related events, including professional learning experiences, public programs, farmer workshops and roundtables.
  • Manage communications with event guests: prepare agendas, handouts, presentations, resources, and other materials needed to support event success.
  • Attend and serve as a resource at program events.

Communications

  • Write materials that clearly communicate program goals, activities, and outcomes, working with Program Directors and Communications Committee as needed.
  • Support Program Development, Measurement, and Fundraising
  • Provide research, data, and content as needed for program development and fundraising
  • Assist Director of Farmer Training with budget development
  • Assist in tracking program progress and impact by gathering data and stories according to designated measurements

Competencies

  • Research: familiarity working with different source material for research, as well as the ability to summarize and synthesize information for various applications (program design, implementation, fundraising, etc.). Working knowledge of fundamental issues in food and farming.
  • Writing: communicate program-related information in an effective style for various audiences. Writing samples and references may be requested.
  • Working: collaboratively and independently, with creativity and flexibility. Must be able to work with other Glynwood employees in a collegial manner.
  • Communicating: to staff, Board, stakeholders, and community, with clarity and enthusiasm. Fluency in English is required.
  • Technical: ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software, Google suite applications, internet for research and administrative functions, smartphone for maintaining communication with others, verbally and via email and texting.

Travel and Weekend Work

  • Frequent day trips for off site meetings/functions.
  • Occasional weekend or evening hours needed to support program events. Some overnight travel if required for conferences or events.

Required Education and Experience

  • College degree or commensurate experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the non-profit, food, farming, community organizing, and/or customer service sectors
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to advance organizational racial equity goals
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, punctual
  • Able to work independently and with a team
  • Able to work remotely and travel

Preferences

  • Fluency in a language other than English
  • Experience in developing educational workshops or curricula

  • Provable eligibility to work in the US
