Millstone Farm

Millstone Farm is a 75-acre family owned farm in Wilton, CT. We are a working farm with many different components including: 3 acres of intensively produced crops, diversified livestock, and an international level equestrian facility. We focus on regenerative farming, providing fresh produce to our local communities, and educating the public about the importance of local agriculture. We sell our diverse vegetable selection and pasture raised meats to our CSA, local restaurants, small family owned markets, and Farmer’s Markets.

Head Gardener Job

We are looking for an experienced Gardener or Farmer, responsible for maintaining 3 acres of intensively produced crops, overseeing seasonal staff, and communicating with customers. The ideal candidate will be well organized, hard-working, diversely skilled, and eager to learn. The commitment to a team-oriented and family-friendly working environment is a priority.

• Year-round, Full-Time
• Salaried with benefits after 3-month trial period
• Immediate Start

Head Gardener Job Responsibilities (non-exhaustive list)

• Seeding, Transplanting, Harvesting, Washing, Packing, and Delivering Produce
• Keeping up to date records and inventory
• Plant maintenance, weed management, pest control
• Irrigation system setup, breakdown, use, and fixes
• Oversee seasonal garden staff and volunteers
• Year round indoor (greenhouse, hoophouse, glasshouse) growing systems management
• Bed renovation, soil preparation, mulching, cover cropping
• Marketing and Communicating with clients (CSA members, chefs, farmers market customers, etc.)
• Use and care for small machinery and hand tools
• Assist with other farm operations when needed (livestock, equestrian, facilities, and grounds)
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in all working and storage areas

Qualifications

• Previous Farming and/or gardening experience (minimum 1 year)
• Self-motivated and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Ability to bring enthusiasm, initiative and a good attitude each day
• Ability to prioritize tasks
• Experience and skill creating and implementing a garden plan
• Ability to focus on quality and have attention to detail when performing any tasks
• Able to work outside in all weather conditions and physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs.
• Reliable, responsible and punctual
• Ability to follow directions, ask questions when needed, and retain information for future reference
• Communicate well with others
• Knowledge of Excel, Word, QuickBooks, E-mail, and basic computer skills
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Salary & Benefits

• Dependent on experience, paid bi-weekly
