Description: Responsibilities: The successful candidate will assist the State Vegetable Specialist to conduct applied research projects and deliver relevant extension programs to vegetable professionals. Specific examples of duties include, but not limited to, conducting applied vegetable trials in both open field and greenhouse conditions and summarizing resulting data; conducting farm visits w/o the company of the State Vegetable Specialist; helping organize/coordinate regional and state vegetable conferences, e.g. the Great Plains Vegetable Growers Conference; helping write extension guide sheets and other publications; providing help in developing extension and applied research proposals; and supervising undergraduate student workers. The incumbent will also need to develop positive relationships with partners from University of Missouri Extension, Missouri Department of Agriculture, and other local, state and federal stakeholders. Qualifications: An earned Master of Science Degree in Horticulture or in Plant Science with one year of experience in vegetable production, or an earned Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture with at least three years of experience in vegetable production and extension. Candidates should be able to operate farm equipment including tractors, be capable of lifting up to 50lb, have a valid driver’s license, and be willing to undertake extensive travels. Experience of working with minority farmers and ability to speak and read Spanish are preferred.
