Killarney Farm is a diversified small farm surrounded by national forest one hour east of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Our stewardship emphasizes building and maintaining soil fertility through the use of green manure crops and aged animal manures. We practice crop rotation, drip irrigation, mulching, succession planting and season extension. Killarney Farm produce has been CERTIFIED ORGANIC since 1991. We grow a wide assortment of crops including garlic, onions, many greens, potatoes, carrots, beets, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, squash, walnuts, bedding plants in the spring. We also keep a flock of laying hens and alpine dairy goats. Our produce is available at the Kootenai County Farmers’ Markets [both days and locations] throughout the season and at our roadside stand at the Rose Lake Junction [I-90 & Hiway 3]4:30-6:30 pm on Tuesdays June -Sept. 

We offer apprenticeship / internship positions and are currently looking for 1 or 2 hard-working, pleasant-natured individuals eager to learn the nitty- gritty operation of a successful 6- acre market garden by hands on experience. The position is open immediately and will end in early to mid- October. The Killarney Farm internship is 4-5 days per week, and involves hard work and long hours (a typical day starts between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. with a break for breakfast at 9 am and midday meal around 3 pm with work concluding around 7 p.m.) Prior garden experience is preferred, but not necessary. The ability to apply self physically in an efficient, cheerful manner is required. Learning will include cultivation, mulching, irrigating, and harvesting over 50 different crops (vegetables, fruits, flowers, nuts and herbs). Opportunity to assist at farmers’ market if desired. Helping with the care of milk goats and laying hens is also an option. Stipend upwards of $100/wk. Two yurts available for interns as well as sleeping loft over intern kitchen.  Limited12v solar power. Outdoor shower. Nearby Lake. Two wholesome meals per day. Own transportation recommended. Interns are sure to learn a lot from Ellen and Paul who have over thirty years of experience farming and are eager to share what they know.
