Full-Time Organic Farm Job in Illinois on Montalbano Farms – 2020

Christina and Rob of Montalbano Farms are looking to fill a full-time position for their farm in northern Illinois. Montalbano Farms grows certified organic nursery plants and industrial hemp on their farm in northern Illinois. In addition, we manage an 80 acre prairie restoration project. We are hiring a seasonal, full time, non-benefited employee.

This is a rare opportunity to learn and grow with one of Chicago’s best farms.

The successful applicant will perform a wide range of duties related to the growing, care and harvest of plants. This is an entry level position. The work will include loading and unloading material and equipment from buildings and vehicles; maintaining vehicles and other equipment; greenhouse and building maintenance; using small engine equipment and a wide variety of hand tools; planting and seeding; field cultivation and irrigation; pest control; maintenance activities including mowing, weeding, hand pulling, fertilizer and pesticide application and prescribed fire. Work requires the safe and careful handling of chemical products. We will add additional responsibilities as the season progresses.

The successful applicant will be motivated, coachable and independent. We work in all weather, including adverse weather. The normal work schedule varies throughout the year. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors throughout the year and may yield exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by the weather. Weekend work is required often. Pay is $1750/month, with a performance bonus negotiable. Free electric car charging. We have parking available for your RV. There is daily Amtrak train service to Chicago and beyond nearby.
