The Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program

If you’re a vegetable farmer who ever thought it’d be great to have assistance in the marketing and research department, but weren’t sure how to manage or budget it, then you should know you’re not alone AND that’s why the Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program exists. It is the marketing and research assistant you always needed at a fraction of the cost and it manages itself.

The Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program exists to serve the vegetable growers of Pennsylvania by promoting Pennsylvania-grown vegetables and funding practical vegetable production research. Commonly referred to as PVMRP, it is a 20+ year-old state-wide marketing order established by a grower referendum, governed by a grower board and funded by grower assessments.

As a participating grower you receive access to reports and are able to utilize the data to inform and benefit your own operation. The program offers weekly integrated pest management updates by mail, fax or email, for tomatoes and sweet corn during the growing season as well. In addition, each grower receives a credit toward point-of-purchase items for use in direct sales, like price paddles and promotional posters. Finally, each grower, whether they sell their produce retail or wholesale, benefits from the increased consumer awareness, acceptance, and celebration of Pennsylvania vegetables generated by the PVMRP’s marketing and promotional efforts.

The PVMRP created, and annually develops and manages, the statewide marketing campaign August is PA Produce Month, which includes marketing and communications activities that support the annual celebration and boost awareness of Pennsylvania vegetables during peak PA growing season. You can explore additional benefits of PVMRP participation by visiting the Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program Website HERE.
