Regenerative Organic Farming Internships Available at the Rodale Institute in Kutztown, PA – 2020

Rodale Institute regenerative organic farming internships and training programs are paid or can be taken for college credit. Limited housing and produce from the farm may also be available.

Regenerative Organic Farming Internships Include:

ACCOUNTING

To provide the Accounting and Human Resources team support. The Accounting/Human Resources Intern reports directly to the Finance/Human Resources Director. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are later in their accounting curriculum interested in working in a team environment and wanting to gain exposure to accounting and human resources work. This internship is unpaid and will be offered to college students eligible to receive college credits for the internship. The ideal candidate would commit to at least 15 hours per week for at least 8 weeks during the spring or fall semesters.

AGRICULTURE SUPPORTED COMMUNITIES (FARMER TRAINING)

Rodale Institute’s Agriculture Supported Communities (ASC) training program is a multiple track internship that gives aspiring farmers the knowledge and experience they need to start their organic career. Interns will experience the entire lifecycle of an organic farm on multiple scales while also learning how to distribute produce and increase access to healthy organic food.

COMMUNICATIONS

Rodale Institute is seeking a highly motivated Communications intern to gain hands-on experience in a wide variety of communications outlets such as social media, email marketing, website, photography/video, graphic design, publications, events, media relations and more. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic self-starter who enjoys working on a wide variety of tasks.

DEVELOPMENT

Assist the Development team with upcoming events: Organic Pioneer Awards, Apple Festival, Field Day, plant sales, etc.; provide support for annual giving campaigns; help maintain database of current and prospective donors; and assist in creation of end-of-year donor appeal

GARDEN & LANDSCAPE

Rodale is offering an educational, hands-on opportunity for interns to learn and practice the fundamental principles of organic plant cultivation in the greenhouse and landscape. Greenhouse work will begin in the early March and continue through mid-May. Greenhouse duties will include assisting with growing for retail plant sales, demonstration gardens, vegetable production and research support. Garden work will begin in early May and end by late September. Garden areas will include ornamental plantings, Medicinal Garden, Herb Vegetable Garden, and Cut Flower & Pollinator Garden. These areas of the farm are the primary focus on site for the Institute with the visiting public and events. Interns will have the opportunity to work with a diverse selection of plant material.

LIVESTOCK

Rodale Institute is seeking a qualified intern to aid in the care and management of our livestock. Rodale’s livestock currently consists of a swine facility, two donkeys, laying hens, and also seasonally broilers and turkeys. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in not only raising organic livestock but getting a wide variety of different livestock experiences.

MULTIMEDIA

Rodale Institute is seeking a qualified multimedia intern to help create dynamic, digital storytelling. This intern would work with Rodale Institute’s Communications department on video projects, photography, online education such as webinars, and social media outlets such as Facebook Live and Youtube. Multimedia communications will be shared through social media, our website, email marketing and other campaigns.

ORGANIC FARMERS ASSOCIATION

Organic Farmers Association is seeking a highly motivated intern to gain hands-on experience in a wide variety of policy outreach, membership development, and communications outlets such as social media, email marketing, website, photography/video, graphic design, publications, events, media relations, member development, sponsorship and more. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic self-starter who enjoys working on a wide variety of tasks.

RESEARCH

Research interns work directly with Rodale Institute’s Research Department to address current and future agricultural needs by conducting high-quality research using regenerative, organic methods for agricultural production and identifying tools and practices to help grow organic agriculture by: addressing pest and fertility issues, mitigating and adapting to climate change, and improving human health by addressing nutrient density in crops.also are conducted.

LUKE’S RODALE INSTITUTE ORGANIC FARM

The Rodale Institute is seeking enthusiastic and driven individuals with a positive spirit to apply for an internship at the St. Luke’s Rodale Institute Organic Farm. The farm is a partnership between the Rodale Institute and St. Luke’s Hospital to create an innovative farm-to-institute model. This intern would work with the St. Luke’s Farmers to produce and deliver safe, healthy, organic produce to all the hospitals in the St. Luke’s Health Network
