Agriculture Deputy Secretary Merrigan to Host Conference Call to Announce Specialty Crop Block Grants

WASHINGTON, Oct. 5, 2011– TODAY, Agriculture Deputy Secretary Merrigan will host a national media conference call to announce new specialty crop block grants to help expand the market for specialty crops such as fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture and nursery crops, including floriculture.

The purpose of the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP) is to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops. Funds will be used by all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
