Dairy Assistant Job Available At Old Ford Farm in New Paltz, New York – 2019

Old Ford Farm is a small diversified family farm located in Gardiner, NY. We strive to produce quality foods, build community, and use farming methods that promote the long-term health of our land, animals, and larger environment. We have a small herd of Jersey and Jersey-Devon cows that are grass-fed and supplemented with a small amount of grain. The grain is certified non-GMO and grown without pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. We are licensed by New York State to sell raw milk, and we welcome visitors to meet the cows and observe a milking any time. Contact us to set up a day.

Dairy Assistant Job Description

The main responsibility will be running all aspects of the dairy operation. This includes caring for cows (fencing, feeding, etc.), milking, and bottling milk. Other jobs will include collecting eggs, animal fencing/rotation, all aspects of growing vegetables, and tractor work, among other farm tasks. Through your work you will learn about the day-to-day workings and management of a for-profit diversified farm. We offer a friendly and organized work environment, as well as the opportunity to interact with the people who are buying the food you are producing.

Schedule/Hours

The morning shift is 6 am – noon and the evening shift is 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm. This position is for 7 shifts per week (more can be added if desired). The schedule always includes at least 2 full days off. A one-year commitment is required. The position can start any time.

Compensation

$16/hour plus eggs, milk, yogurt and vegetables.
