This position will be responsible for the stewardship of land management including landscape maintenance, horticultural elements, agricultural fields, orchards gardens and related programs. Southall has a commitment to managing the property with ecological principles and leaning towards a future with biodynamic management practices and sustainable decision making.

Farm Events and Education Program Manager Position Description

The Program Manager is responsible for leading all farm-based guest and staff experiences that help build the culture and share the vision for Southall Farms that is rooted in the stewardship of the land and cultivation of food. The Program Manager will work closely with the farm manager, marketing team and other staff to plan and deliver farm messaging and programming.

Education, Engagement, Entertainment – Planning and Effectuation

  • Work with management to develop programming and engagement opportunities
  • Designs an annual calendar of workshops, classes, events and other programs for the public and resort guests
  • Adapt annual calendar based on successes, interest and trends.
  • Cultivate experiences that are meaningful, sustainable and memorable.
  • Coordinate with farmers, vendors, educators and resort staff to facilitate educational and sensory experiences.

Programs

  • Design and lead Farm Tour Program in coordination with farm staff.
  • Develop and manage volunteer programs. Recruitment, training, scheduling and retention of volunteers. Create appreciation and incentives
  • Develop and coordinate resort staff farm training program. Including orientation cross-training work schedule – to the end that all staff are connected to the land and seasonal changes
  • Develop SOPS for various aspects of farm program such as events, volunteer and tours – deliver to HR

Inter-department

  • Assist Farm Manager with farm tasks on a weekly basis.
  • Utilize seasonal changes, and nature’s abundance from the kitchen gardens, ag field, edible landscape, greenhouse, apiary and silva pasture to create naturally relevant experiences.
  • Coordinate events and programming with farm manager regarding scheduling, staffing and farm activities
  • Work with HR to project seasonal staffing needs and participate in hiring and managing staff.
  • Manage annual programs and marketing budget for the farm in coordination with Catering and
  • Events, Marketing and Land Stewardship Directors.

Marketing and Communications

  • Coordinates with Marketing for farm related communications and social media
  • Develop narrative for educational materials, curriculum and messaging
  • Work with staff and consultants as appropriate on developing educational and marketing materials for the farm
  • Attend marketing meetings – communicate back to the farm team.
  • Photography, video, and written content for digital and print media
  • Social media, Farm Blog and Newsletter development.
  • Support website development and content management.

Private Farm Events

  • Coordinate all event details including permitting, sourcing materials and managing event budgets
  • Planning event logistics, including securing appropriate staff hours
  • Organizing sales and contracts for private event rentals.

Team and culture building “Culture Keeper”

  • Provide resort staff with opportunities to connect to the farms and with each other
  • Relationship building between farms, kitchen and resort staff.
  • Provide training and experiences that keep the resort vision and mission alive for staff.
  • Assist with marketing and outreach efforts of Southall, including speaking to community and other groups about the Southall farm program.

Qualifications

  • Experience creating educational experiences
  • Previous experience with marketing and digital campaigns
  • Some culinary and farming/gardening experience
  • Team oriented spirit. Enthusiasm for sustainability, natural world, culinary and visual arts.
  • Great communication, internally and public speaking
  • Working knowledge of basic computer software programs including Excel and Word
  • Math skills sufficient for budgeting and financial management of program operations.

Preferred qualifications

  • Background in farming with permaculture and biodynamics
  • Developing farm based activities
  • Passionate in regenerative farming practices
  • Understanding of local food systems and food access
  • Resort and or customer service experience
  • BA/BS Preferred

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Director of Land Stewardship
  • Works closely with Farm Manager
  • Coordinates with all staff

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience. Includes Benefits Package. As a salaried position the schedule will vary by week and seasons.

Occasional Physical Tasks

Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, cutting and carrying.
