WORKSHOP: ACCESS TO LAND AND FINANCIAL CAPITAL FOR NEW AND BEGINNING FARMERS IN MICHIGANMonday, March 7th, 2016 from 9 am- 4 pm. Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center 219 S Harrison Rd, RM # 104 AB East Lansing, MI 48824 Access to land and financial capital are among beginning farmers’ greatest challenges. This full-day session will help beginning farmers understand the types and uses of capital and to prepare to access it. We’ll explore land tenure options, financial and investment readiness, finding and assessing land, and negotiating with landowners through discussions, handouts and exercises. Facilitators include Kathy Ruhf and Ben Waterman, and a panel of local experts to offer what they know about accessing capital and land. This event is organized through the collaboration of MSU Student Organic Farm, Michigan Food and Farming Systems (MIFFS), and the Center for Regional Food Systems (CRFS).
