Job: Foodshed Project Coordinator, Virginia

This position will provide coordination and support for a NIFA grant-funded project housed by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech. The position will generate positive, substantive impact on the development of sustainable food systems and agricultural economies in the region. Responsibilities include assisting the Program Director in coordinating communication among three (3) universities to execute the planned research and activities for community-based local food efforts; develop a framework for documentation, evaluation and analysis of information generated via meetings and research; write and proofread written correspondence, schedule meetings, make travel arrangements and assist in evaluation efforts of the initiative process overall. Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Food Systems or Agriculture related field; Experience in concepts related to sustainable food systems; Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; Experience developing online training and tools; Experience working independently as well as in a team of diverse stakeholders, faculty, and undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of disciplines; Proficiency with multiple software programs such as Microsoft, Outlook, CMS, Banner; Knowledge of local foods and/or sustainable agriculture concepts and initiatives ; Experience with Project Management

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree; Previous work experience at a land-grant university; Experience facilitating meetings with members in multiple locations; Experience with interdisciplinary and community engaged scholarship; Experience with web and video development

Description of job responsibility/duty:

Assist the Program Director (PD) in coordinating communication among three universities to execute the planned research and activities for community-based local food efforts. Support networks for regional food systems enhancement. Communicate and maintain good relations with NGOs, small businesses, local farmers, and community members.

Develop a framework for documentation, evaluation, and analysis of information generated via meetings and research. Take notes, create timelines, keep files, and monitor deadlines and budgets, and track progress throughout the lifetime of the grant.

Write and proof written correspondence, schedule meetings, make travel arrangements, answer phone calls, and perform all other administrative duties necessary to support to the PD and ensure the flow of production and communication. Assist in evaluation efforts of the initiative process overall.

Identify and pursue potential external funding sources that can support the research, education, and outreach mission of the grant project.
