Codman Community Farms, a community-based farm in Lincoln, MA is looking for a head farmer.  The farm raises animals for meat, cuts hay for feed and for sale, and provides education to the Lincoln community and beyond.  The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of animal husbandry (specifically cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and chickens), tractor and equipment usage and maintenance, and have good communicative and managerial skills.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Animal Care

*         Provide daily care and feeding of cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, goats, water buffalo, donkey, bunnies and assorted others

*         Maintain clean stalls and rotate animals on pastures at farm and off-site

*         Monitor animal health, caring for animals and calling in vet as needed

*         Manage lifecycle of animals for breeding and butchering

*         Field management on location and on fields leased from town, conservation groups and privately held fields

Farm and Equipment Maintenance

*         Work with town to insure proper maintenance of land and buildings

*         Maintain physical appearance of and access to farm, including yard work and snow-plowing

*         Maintain all farm equipment and vehicles

*         Harvest hay, making round and small square bales

*         Maintain hay inventory for CCF use and re-sale

Outreach

*         Interact daily with visitors to the farm, including tour groups

*         Conduct classes for children and adults

*         Serve as resource for other farmers and community members

*         Participate in community-based farm events to further farm’s mission

Management

*         Manage  assistant farmer and permanent and temporary farm hands, including hiring

*         Create annual budget with farm director

*         Work with volunteers

*         Schedule animals and deliver for butchering

*         Schedule and manage hay, compost and wood deliveries
